Till start  T6 (Series)

15kVA - 300kVA

In today’s modern world ever increasing dependence is placed upon the ubiquitous computer, chip technology capable of holding ever more information with ever increasing retrieval speeds means that a reliable and efficient power source is required, just a one second break in power will can spell disaster!

The transformerless T6 UPS is designed to protect the user from the calamity that a power break will bring, along with a double conversion topology the T6 offers input harmonics of <5% with a .99 power factor, to those of a none technical disposition what these figures mean are simple, running costs are substantially reduced!

T6 APPLICATIONS:

Because the T6 has an IGBT input stage with digital control the reflected harmonics are almost negligible, this means that a supporting generator can be de-rated, example, a conventional transformer based UPS would often require that the generator be 2.5 times larger than the power of the UPS, with the T6 1.5 times is sufficient, this can often mean savings of 40% on the cost of the generator!

Advantages and benefits

The T6 is ideal for a variety of applications, with its duel display, cutting edge control system and branded power components the T6 is reliable and robust. The input stage offers low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) i.e. typically <5% with a power factor of .98 and all enhanced with DSP technology. The topology is the same for all T6 machines from 10KVA to 300KVA. To add further flexibility and to broaden application the T6 can be paralleled with up to five other units offering either N+1 or simply creating more power.

The features presented above have real benefits to the user, low running costs, easy servicing, enhanced reliability, small footprint and enhanced monitoring.

Advanced IGBT based PFC (power factor corrected ) rectifier:

As already stated theT6 has the big advantage of having both an IGBT input and output stage enhanced with a sophisticated power factor correction system. The low pf (Power Factor) .99/.98 married to low THD means that not only are running costs dramatically reduced but when working with a Generator the Generator itself can be down sized, this can represent a cost saving of up to 40%.

The input technology employed by the T6 ensures a clean and sinusoidal input current avoiding upstream pollution of the power supply. With more and more governments wanting to fine dirty mains equipment users the T6 makes a sound financial investment.

T6 Efficiency, reducing your carbon footprint

With green issues dominating today’s news headlines efficiency must be the key to a cleaner environment and a substantially smaller utility bill. A true double conversion (On Line) UPS runs through an energy conversion process before reaching the load thus a portion of the input power will always be lost, the trick is to minimise this loss which is manifest as wasted heat.

The T6 dramatically reduces these losses without compromising the crucial double conversion topology, the benefits are many, including the option to reduce air conditioning (less heat) which in itself is a high polluter.

The guiding design principles of the T6 are reflected in its ability to achieve greater than 95% efficiency a .97 input power factor and less than 5% reflected harmonics yes the T6 really is UPS technology at its best.

T6, The Generator Friendly UPS

Because the T6 has an IGBT input stage with digital control the reflected harmonics are almost negligible, this means that a supporting Generator can be de-rated. Example, a conventional transformer based UPS would often require that the generator be 2.5 times larger than the power of the UPS, with the T6 1.5 times is sufficient, this can often mean savings of 40% on the cost of the generator!

The T6 offers excellent protection against mains feedback, traditional double conversion UPS find such a problem difficult to resolve and have to revert to the UPS by pass facility, however it’s not uncommon for circuitry and or components to be damaged before any such protective transfer can take place, a prime example of this can be illustrated with CNC machines which generate substantial feed back as a result of magnetic brakes. A second solution to dissipate this unwanted energy is to turn it into heat, although this is an effective solution it is never the less a waste of energy which in turn reduces efficiency. With the T6 IGBT rectifier and filtering system this is a problem of the past, the feedback energy is allowed to pass back to the utility with no ill effect to the UPS or the load. The T6 active filter makes the T6 series compatible with almost any type of load.

Modern Technology For Efficient Use:

The T6 series offers much higher efficiency when compared to traditional transformer based UPS, the savings can be as high as 25% when compared to this older technology. If the average three phase UPS is 30,000 watts it does take a rocket scientist to calculate what the savings can be over the life cycle of the UPS. As mentioned previously a side benefit to high UPS efficiency is that air conditioning can be downsized which in turn also dramatically reduces running costs.

T6 Low on Harmonics

Conventional UPS, particularly the type that use six pulse rectifies, can reflect up to 30% distortion back onto the mains supply, the effect of such distortion can and does interact with other equipment down stream from the UPS. These reflected harmonics will shortly be subject to fines from governmental (EEC) authorities who are tasked to maintain and improve the utility supply for the benefit of all users. The T6 input stage is designed around a power factor corrected IGBT rectifier thus the harmonics are almost negligible with the added benefit of the current being drawn in a sinusoidal fashion.

Compatible with linear loads and high crest factor:

The T6 uses high performance high speed microprocessors to control and maintain critical features of the UPS. A common problem with a UPS is the issue of Crest Factors, the T6 as a result of its high speed control is able to handle crest factor anomalies whilst maintaining the output voltage to within +/- 1%. By having such tight control over the output voltage the life of the machines attached to the UPS are extended, yet another reason to let the T6 look after your load!

Small Footprint Big Power:

The T6 is a masterful example of integrating the benefits of Digital Technology to within the power conversion industry. All essential control and regulation is performed through software interfacing thus absolutely no dependence is placed on mechanical or analog devices. To further enhance reliability and to reduce size the majority of circuit boards within the T6 are SMT type (Surface Mount Technology) giving the T6 a very robust, compact and durable design. Typically a 100KVA has a footprint of 0.46sqm this allows the user to maximize the available space, remember also that the T6 is on average 45% lighter than a conventional transformer based design.

Intelligent Battery Management:

The T6 Microprocessor controlled battery management system can have a dramatic effect in extending battery life. The charger monitors the condition of the batteries hundreds of times per minute, should the ambient temperature change then the control circuit will regulate the charging current to de-stress the battery. If the battery has been discharged as a result of a power failure then the T6 will increase its power to recover the cell within the shortest time possible whilst never compromising the cells integrity. A further feature on the T6 is that batteries can be changed in “Hot Swap” this feature allows a battery change without the need to drop the load.

When a power failure occurs the time displayed on the LCD or via your server is real time based on the load v the battery capacity. This feature is crucial for applications where an automated shutdown is required, you always know what time you really have left.

Smart Energy Management:

Typically UPS efficiency increases as full load approaches however with the T6 the differential between full load and half load is marginal, efficiency always remains high. When the T6 is run in parallel the load is shared across all the machines equally, up to six, however there are circumstances when the load is so low that to run even the T6 would be wasting energy. Under these circumstances machines not required to support the load will go into sleep mode thus reducing the demand for power, as the load starts to increase the sleeping UPS will seamlessly reintroduce themselves, all done automatically!

Digital Control System:

The T6 incorporates high performance microprocessors allowing the UPS to be 100% digitally controlled. The benefit of digital control over analog is that the digital system is faster and can easily accept multiple tasks without sacrificing performance. Because of the nature of digital information it is less susceptible to external interference making the overall system more robust. The topology of the T6 is fully integrated which in layman’s means that each part of the machine is talking to the other, so if one section of the UPS finds itself in difficulty the other modules will endeavour to protect both the UPS and the load.

Single or Dual Input Operation:

A standard feature on the T6 is a reserve line facility. The advantage of a reserve line means that the UPS has a fail safe option, should the primary supply (the mains) fail or the UPS be severely overloaded then the T6 will automatically revert to the reserve line, the reserve line can be either a secondary mains supply or more commonly a generator. Switching between reserve and mains is all done without a break to the load and in sync with the mains supply.

Battery Charger and Customizable Battery Bank:

Several intelligent charging methods are implemented that take place depending on the state of the batteries. In this way, safe charging and longevity is ensured. Besides, it is possible to alter the total number of batteries. In case a few of the batteries need to be replaced, just by setting a few parameters on LCD panel the machine runs and charge the remaining batteries with perfect reliability. This is highly beneficial to ensure the continuity of operation.

Dual Interactive Display Screen:

Unlike other UPS the T6 incorporates a duel screen display, screen (1) schematic of UPS, Screen (2) menu and sub control, having this feature gives immeasurably more control over the UPS. With traditional single screen displays you have to go into sub-menus, as you scroll through these and make selections you may not be aware of the effect on the UPS or its status, having a separate schematic of the whole system you can clearly see how your choices are effect the whole system.

Optional Accessories:

Redundant Operation:

The T6 can be run in parallel in a conventional N+1 matrix with up to six other machines, a special feature of the T6 will allow, if required, for one of the number to be in a sleep mode, should it be required to support the load it will do so instantaneously, further a multi parallel system can be programmed to rotate the sleeping UPS ensuring equal use of each machine.

Parallel Systems

As stated in the previous paragraph the T6 can be run in parallel offering to either increase the capacity of the existing UPS, i.e. 100KVA can be paralleled up to 600KVA or alternatively the machine can be run in an N+1 setup. When in N+1 mode each UPS is talking to the other without the need of a conventional master slave relationship. Should any of the machines fail the remaining systems will seamlessly pick up the load and raise the relevant alarms.

(Optional) Cable Free Paralleling:

While running in parallel the T6 UPS does not require any cable interconnection between the units. With its digital control and high speed microprocessors married to cutting edge wireless technology the T6 is now even easier to install.

Hot Power Upgrade and Easy Service:

Where machines are in a parallel configuration hot swap servicing can be performed. Regardless of the size of the UPS machines can be closed down, serviced or even removed. all without interruption to the load.

Flexible Installation:

If machines need to be in a parallel configuration and providing the cable free option has been installed the T6 can be located in different parts of the building thus giving the installer the option of maximizing space.

Centralised Static & Maintenance Bypass:

Elrond  is able to offer, when required, a centralised static switch array, this is especially useful when multiple UPS are being used. By using the one centralised switch a more robust system can be built.

Redundant bypass for increased reliability

We can configure the installation to include a redundant bypass system to further reduce potential failure points while keeping the MTTR to a minimum. In case of failure to an upstream protection device, the standby bypass instantly takes the load without any interruption.

Group loading

Optional group loading is available on for T6. Individual UPS loading based on priority is especially advantageous as this provides functional separation of loads and increasing the MTTR. Group loading has the added advantage of facilitating selective maintenance on the UPS and switchgear.

Dual Bus Configuration

For applications requiring a continues and highly critical source of supply this configuration offers an effective solution. By feeding the Static transfer switch module with dual supplies, further redundancy if provided to the critical load because two live supplies are available for the static switch to instantaneously switch between. By cascading for static switches for supply sources can be added increasing the reliability further.

Connectivity Solutions

EPC with RS232 and RS485 Communication:

To observe, protect, shutdown, command and control the UPS parameters from your PC via serial link the T6 EPC software professionally meets all the requirement with its variety of features.

Elrond offer a broad range of communication options with the T6 from local to worldwide remote power management solutions.

SNMP: network solution:

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol that can manage and monitor the UPS over TCP/IP network.

REMOTE MONITORING PANEL:

Where intelligent monitoring is required and no network is available the T6 remote panel provides the monitoring of UPS events and parameters remotely from the UPS location.
Using RS485 communication protocol the remote panel provides monitoring via a real time LCD display with an alphanumeric interface enabling the end user to clearly identify the UPS status and alarms.

Custom interface instruction

The T6 has the facility to adapt into environments requiring particular critical performance criteria. The T6 can interface with external signals instructing an Emergency Power Off, instigation of static bypass and rectifier soft start for Generator installation.

Dry Contact:

The volt free dry contacts can be customised from the user interface. This facilitates the user to use an individual relay contact for individual alarm events without changing the hardware.
